7 Facts of Fever and Causes of Fever
In
recent, number of people in Bangladesh ( Dhaka, Narayangonj, and Gazipur) are
suffering from “Chikungunya fever” and the number of “Dengue fever” affected
patients also increased. So, I realized that I should write something related
to this. Today, I am going to write about “Some facts of Fever”
7 Facts of Fever:
- · When our body temperature is above the normal body temperature (37° C or 98.6 F) that could be considered as Fever. Although in medical science, a person is not considered to have a significant fever until the temperature is above 100.4 F or 38°C.
- · In general people consider fever as disease, but most fever is beneficial for health, causes no problems, and helps the body to fight against infections. So, why do we treat a fever? The main reason to treat a fever is to increase comfort.
- · Fever has relation with immune response. As fever is the result of an immune response by our body to a foreign invaders like viruses, bacteria, fungi, drugs, or other toxins.
- · When should we treat fever? If children under three months of age have a temperature of 100.4F or above, it should be seen by a Doctor. They may be quite ill but show no signs or symptoms besides a fever. In case of infants younger than 6 weeks of age should be seen immediately by doctor.
- · Although most cases of fever are self-limited and resolve with treatment of symptoms, the prognosis for fever depends on the causes.
- · What should we do in case of immune suppressive patients or who is taking immunosuppressive drug? In case of immune suppressive patients, cancer, AIDS, or other serious diseases like heart disease or diabetes patients should take medical care if a fever develops and immunosuppressive drug taking person should do so.
- · If the fever is not self-limiting within seven days, patient should go to Doctor for treatment.

- · Sepsis
- · Alcohol-related liver disease
- · Caffeine overdose
- · Heat Emergencies [ exposer to hot weather and sun]
- · Otitis [Middle ear infection]
- · Pneumonia
- · Lung cancer
- · Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma [ cancer of the lymphatic system]
- · Acute HIV infection
